Saving the Best For Last

Image
Carey Michael commented on the 1960 Family Portrait I added to the blog last week. He wondered what happened to his kindergarden photo that mom had inserted into the frame of the larger group. Well I happen to have that shot as well. I also have the small collection of pins. medals, and awards that Eileen and Jack's outstanding progeny accumulated before leaving home. I have intended to bring them to one of the recent reunions and redistribute them to the appropriate owners, but forgot. I guess that you special people can claim them when you come to Arlington. Carey also asked about the big green Bonneville wagon. I think it may have been a 1960 model. I found this example on line. When I came home from the Army in 1970, I bought a 1967 BMW 1600 sedan. Within a few months we decided to become a two car family. I found a beautiful 1965 Mustang convertible for $1500.00. I think that dad had a little pang of ragtop envy. He and Mr. Gideon found a pristine 1967 Firebird Convertible, wi...

Living Room Video

Kevin, Your video of the living room is fabulous. You still appreciate it even though you live there and see it every day. It is absolutely beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Y Basketball K Video bar

What a trip!!! Who are we watching in this energetic 'basketball game?' I'm sitting here smiling outloud...can't imagine how fun it was to see it!

Utah ideas?

We leave for SLC next Sat and will there for a week before heading out to explore natural Utah for another week. Anyone have favorites? food? scenery? hikes? We'll be in Canyonlands, Arches, Moab area...not sure if we'll go to Bryce (we did go there on our move from Lexington to Oakland.) Maybe Petrified Forest?? or too touristy? Friends suggested cafe at Sundance for lunch/dinner. We're thinking of spending the last Sat night in the Park City area as we don't have to fly out until 3 on Sunday....

Broadway Greg In The News

Image
Greg came over this evening with a Sunday Paper under his arm. He said he was called by one of his buds very early this morning to say he needed to go out and buy the Fort Worth Star Telegram ( http://www.startelgram.com/ ). Go to this link to "read all about it" http://www.star-telegram.com/arlington_news/story/543060.html I imagine that I will be questioned everytime I introduce myself, are you related that famous Greg Kennison.

Cheering for the Home Team

Image
Greg and I went in to Dallas on a rainy Tuesday evening to see the Dallas Mavericks take on Kobe and the Lakers. Our Mavs forgot to participate in the first half and were down as much as 24 points. The coach (The Little General) must have pulled in some big markers in the locker room at half time because it was a different team that took the floor after the break. You can see that we were 3 points down at 21 seconds to go and we pulled it back to one point at 12 seconds. The game went to LA in the end but we certainly got our money's worth. We'll soon see how this season pans out, but tonight we take on the lead leading Boston Celtics. They don't stand a chance.

Falling Slowly

Kevin updated the "Video Bar" but I couldn't tell who the artist was. It comes from the 2006 album The Swell Season by Irish musician Glen Hansard and Czech singer and pianist Markéta Irglová. A little more info from WikiPedia

Jane Austen

Our cousin, Jane Austen McKinnon called me while I was in Mill Hall this weekend. She told me that she and her husband, Rich, were divorced after 33 years of marriage. She also said that Rich died at age 58 about a year and a half after they divorced with a massive heart attack. So hard to believe. Jane has three sons, Richard, Greg, and Scott, all of whom live within a half hour of her. She has five grandchildren. She told me that her dad, who was born in 1923, continues to be in good health and works about four hours a day in his practice. She asked about each one of you and wishes you well.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Image
I hope that all of you have a wonderful St. Patrick's Day and lots of O'Fun!! Everyone should sing "K E double N I S O N" spells Kennison, also. Ginny shared a funny definition with me. Irish diplomacy is the ability to tell a man to go to hell and he will look forward to the trip.

Hester Porter

I talked to Ladonna tonight and she said that Grandaddy's Farm was near Gerard's Fort. (Wherever that is!) She said that when his wife died, Grandaddy moved in with Hester but continued to drive to the farm daily. You were right, Brian, that Bruce did live in Lena's little house before he married. I didn't realize that Lena's family and later Lena owned Hester and Frank's house. After she died, her little house became Porter's also....

Hester Porter

I got a letter from Ladonna today telling me that Hester Porter died on March 7 in the Washington, PA hospital. She was 95. Ladonna was really sad I could tell. She said that with Hester's death, the last tie to the corner in Carmichaels is gone. "We three had an unbelievable friendship."

Understanding the Web

This was once a hit on YouTube . It's really about how digital media, and how easy it is to create, More people publishing changes how we think and act. The machine might Google but it's much bigger than that.

Gentle Reminder Part deux

I just picked up the April issue of Living and noticed on page 4, "Gentle Reminders" from Martha. I had no idea that you were a Martha fan Brian... Kevin, wondering why the picture that accompanies your reply to "Gentle Reminders" has you on your back on the ground? Good night....

Watching the Night Sky

Image
It was windy today and kind of cool but I spent some time outside raking,  Tonight, a little sore,  I decided to use the hot tub. What a nice sky!. Here's a link to a map of the night sky at our latitude and longitude. (I need tripod to try and see if I can snap  a picture to send you. ) The web site that provides this "map"  has other tools to help you learn about the sky in you area. Not necessarily easy to use but it might be fun.

Video Bar

Hello to All, We just gave away four tickets for tonight's Mavericks game against the Houston Rockets. We have had a sleet and snow shower all afternoon and I felt like the roads would be terrible at midnight for the drive home. Kathy's daughter Kristin and her husband and friends were up to the cold night out. I do have two tickets in the glovebox for the upcoming game against the Lakers. I'm betting it will be a much warmer evening on March 18. I'm surprised that I have not gotten any comments on the guitar duo, Rodrigro y Gabriella, on the video bar. I saw them on Letterman a few months ago and was immediately a big fan. I bought their CD for Donny, but burned it to my machine first. You can use this spot to post your home videos or others you may want to share from the internet. Kevin

Hello Kennison clan

I love this blog thing! I just want you all to know that we want any and all Kennison's to make a trip to Georgia for Memorial Day. We would love to have you all. It will be warm in Georgia by that time Brian(I heard it is really cold in your parts these days) and we could swim and play tennis and basketball and golf!! Please consider it, as I would love to get together with you all! Take care, Love Barb P.S. I am also a guest blogger on Easterseals.com under their autism site. Check it out sometime. There is a blog there now about Scottie dressing fancy in Atlanta!

e-updates for Gregory

Image
Greg has made the "Great Leap Forward" into the technology of a Smart Phone. We went to the AT&T store yesterday evening to sign up for a new phone and TV service. Greg had a phone in mind that a friend has. He bought the Samsung Blackjack II and enrolled in an internet plan. He now has the internet, email and text in the palm of his hand. Greg called me late this afternoon to say that he enjoyed the emails from family today. He said the floodgates have opened. Keep the emails coming. This phone has a full keyboard.

...and we can't forget Grandad Bill

Okay... I'm trying to figure out how to post a picture AND write a note. Who knew it was so simple!! Just hit "tab" and the cursor it goes down into the "picture section." Thanks for the tip about pictures from Picasa, Kristin. This is my first day on the blog. Fun. Hi, Mom! :)

Happy Birthday to Me

Corby Has Signed Up

I'm in :-) ready to share my thoughts, insights, gripes?!

name change

I added Kennison to my name since Kathy's Kristin also used Kristin. It is unusual for people to spell the name correctly. Way to go Kathy!!!

Gentle Reminder

Be sure to put a label (keyword or tag) on every post (bottom of posting). I think what Carey was suggesting, in using a blog instead of email, was that some time down the road he could go back a "re-live" the exciting conversations that some time take place between us. Labeling your posts lets us look for all posts under that label. It's also fun to see what labels emerge. Believe me, they'll come in handy.

Goin' to Beverly Hills

We have an interesting development on our ranch here in Arlington. There's natural gas under our house and Chesapeake Energy wants it out. I have a contract on my desk that I can sign that will pay us $16,500 per acre and 25% of the profits for the life of the well. We have 4/10th of an acre. There is another neighborhood group negotiating with a different gas company. They are asking $25,000 per acre. I will need to look into this proposal before I pull the trigger on the one I have now. The monthly royalties are estimated to be about $50.00. We can bank on a cool mil. in about 1600 years. No "cement pond" for the Kennisons yet.

SMS Text Messages

Everyone, I've been send out text messages to people naively thinking that everyone who has a phone can get them. (which I now believe is not the case). I just sent a bunch of messages to Carey (during the UK basketball game) but got no answer. I know Kevin can, and Kris can't (no phone). The others?

Many thanks

Kevin - way to go on the blog! I think it looks great and will be a good single source.

Time to do the Taxes

I've always done our taxes by hand but the last few years have seemed stressful so I'm considering H&R Block or one of the tax packages. Anyone had any experience with this type of thing?

You can send pictures from Picasa by chosing Blog This.

Good Idea

Thanks, Kevin, for doing this. It will make it easier to have a running conversation. The emails are fun, but this will be quicker and easier. That was quite a basketball game!

Another Day, Another Update

I have changed the page background and layout from the selection I made a week ago. This looks a little better. I also added a section for a slideshow and pictures, but my bet is that this will only be available to me. Maybe Brian and Carey can look at this and add their pictures (of the day).
