e-updates for Gregory

Greg has made the "Great Leap Forward" into the technology of a Smart Phone. We went to the AT&T store yesterday evening to sign up for a new phone and TV service. Greg had a phone in mind that a friend has. He bought the Samsung Blackjack II and enrolled in an internet plan. He now has the internet, email and text in the palm of his hand. Greg called me late this afternoon to say that he enjoyed the emails from family today. He said the floodgates have opened.

Keep the emails coming. This phone has a full keyboard.

It might have a full keyboard, but does Greg know how to type?? Did Dominick teach him anything? Does his phone have a QUERTY keyboard??

Yes, it has a QUERTY keyboard. Don't let anyone else know, but I did get a response to my text to him this morning (Ching! Ching! No gohouk!)

NOW this blog is getting some life and some purpose! Good picture, Greg. Too bad Aunt Pic isn't a blog member. She was just telling me the last time I saw her how handsome she thinks you are! :-)

I just wish I could have seen the feet to tell if Greg was wearing roach kickers or not!! You guys are the best and I love this blog thing-thanks for including a Kennison/Murrie/Gaither!

 When watching the evening news today, I saw an image of coal barges lined up at the docks at the USS Mon Valley Steel Plant.  Of course the news segment was about the White House blocking the sale of USS to Nippon Steel.  My mind wandered to to dad's career at the Robena Prep Plant.  I didn't think that it was still in operation but I searched for more information.  I found that the Robena deep mines closed in 1983, but plant continued to operate until 2017 processing coal from surface mining for Consol Mining.  It seems that reclamation of the site began many years before 2017, most likely mandated by local concerns about environmental damage from seepage from the three large slurry ponds and other surface contamination.  Dad took me out one Sunday afternoon to inspect the dikes and berms around the ponds.  We had to hop into one of the big company trucks to traverse the dirt roads around the site.
