Kathy and I rented a lovely house on Lake Paestine, about 2 hours east of Dallas. We took the boat, all of the water toys, and the kayaks, and met all of the kids and grandkids for four days of sunshine and play. Jessica and Kristin worked out in advance every meal, and we had such a nice time with all of the grandkids. There is a new collection of photos on my Picasa Web Album. You can click on "Kevin's Photos" on the left side of the blog to view them. All I can say is "come on down!".

I came out to my desk yesterday morning and saw the sunlight was just beginning to reach the birdfeeders. Our usual group of perching birds was busy getting their breakfast. I reached for my new camera that I left on the desk the night before and snapped these shots in about ten minutes, sitting in my office chair through the plate glass. There is a new album added to my Picasa Web Albums. I have been evaluating and testing the Nikon Digital Single Lens Reflex cameras for the last 12 months. I concluded that the one I wanted is the D90 with a lens that costs as much as the camera body. This is the 18 to 200 lens that lets you do wide angle as well as telephoto shots without ever having to change lenses. I decided to sell the Miata to pay for the camera so I posted the car on Craigs list. I didn't have a call on the car for three weeks, but I went ahead and bought the camera last Friday afternoon. Friday night at about 10:00 I got my first email response the ad. The young ...

I'm thinking of Mother this morning. Corby took a survey yesterday about the Kennison Family Traditions for Mother's Day. I think she got the same response all around, that Mom cooked for the brood and then everyone went on their way. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all the moms in our family. I hope it's a great one!

Kristin mentioned that we would soon see the spring blooms from Arlington on a post response a couple of weeks ago. Kathy and I have been working more in the garden beds and woodlands this spring than anytime in the last three years. We have picked up tons of leaves in the front and moved them to the back to be mulched for ground cover. I have been moving some shrubs and trees to more desirable locations. All the while I have snapped a few shots. These are on my PicasaWeb Album "Early Spring Blooms" which can be accessed on the left of the blog. We found a new nursey that is a gardner's dream, Herman's in east Fort Worth. You drive down into the Hood and then find a dirt driveway with no signage. This place is run by a Sister and Brother team about 40. Every piece of wood and every black bucket that ever came in here is stacked in mountains 30' tall. Think Sanford and Son but much more skanky. There are 30 hoop greenhouses, 20 of which are derilict. Bu...

Kathy and I planned a week of vacation to work in the yard and get a jump on spring. I worked at my desk all day Saturday and Sunday to turn in orders. We both worked in the yard on Monday to start collecting the leaves. I then went back to work in my office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. So much for the yard work. We had reservations on the Riverwalk for Friday and Saturday night. We had a delightful time with a satisfying mix of old Texas history, beautiful landscapes and flowers, and wonderful food and music. We have to thank each of you, as this is our Wedding Present from the Kennison Clan. I have posted some photos on my web albums.

Carey asked me to post mom's recipe for bakeless cookies or better known as chocolate globs. If you leave out the cocoa and add peanuts, you get her other version of the cookies. Mom used oleo, but I use butter. 2 cups sugar 1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup cocoa 1/2 cup peanut butter 1 tsp vanilla 3 cups oatmeal Mix sugar, butter, milk, and cocoa in saucepan. Boil for about one minute. Off the heat, mix in peanut butter, vanilla, and oatmeal. Drop by rounded teaspoon onto waxed paper. Let harden. Enjoy!!

I have just returned from a trip to NYC. Michele got tickets for The View. She invited her sister, her mom and me to go with her. We drove up on Tuesday morning. That afternoon we took a tour of the art work in the buildings at Rockefeller Center. Then we took the NBC tour. Michele ended up being the weather woman - against the green screen. Amazing. That evening we went to see Jersey Boys -- Fantastic. It was terrific. We went out to eat afterward and had a great meal. Wednesday morning we got up and walked to the ABC studio - about 19 blocks. We then stood in line for 2.25 hours in a very hot crowded corner of a room where you could not sit - even on the floor. Finally we did get seated. The show had guests Kate Winslet and Jane Krakowski from 30 Rock. It was a good show, but it really does not happen the way that it appears to happen when you watch it. I took a lot of pictures, but only one turned out. It is Kate Winslet talking to Whoopi. I hope that Michele has bet...

We always wonder...best to blow the driveway when you know the precipitation is going to change to rain/sleet overnight....or let it go until the morning?! Tonight we cleared the drive and fully expect a sheet of ice by morning! With luck, we'll have a late start tomorrow and the drive will have a chance to melt before I have to head out. Then, after the snow removal stint, I got distracted. Maude was born on the deck complete with Joe Pye Weed Hair, a 'neckwreath', ornament earrings...and of course a carrot nose!

Melissa and I are putting on layers of clothes and heading to the national Mall to join hundreds of thousands of our friends and neighbors in viewing the swearing-in of President Obama. We will be more than a mile from the Capital, but they have set up jumbo TV monitors so that we can see and hear the ceremony. On Saturday,we attended the "We Are One" concert at the Lincoln Memorial. We arrived more than three hours early, so we were close enough to see the Obamas, Bidens, Springsteen, Bono, Stevie Wonder, Pete Seeger, etc. They looked like ants, some of whom held tiny guitars. On Saturday evening, we attended a reception hosted by the Oklahoma State Society at the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian. It was a lovely evening, capped by a rousing sing-along rendition of the title song from "Oklahoma!".

I am back from a wonderful week in Florida with my friends Jim and Gale Lynch. They certainly know how to live. They are at the beach all year long- 8 months on Sanibel Island and 4 months in Ocean Grove, NJ. The weather was wonderful and they are great cooks. I was requested to make crab cakes. I made crab cakes for them when they were here in the summer. Jim loved them. I made extra so they could freeze them. Now I am back in the cold. No more watching the sun set into the water.

Hey Everybody So here is the story. I took her out to a really nice restaurant called, The Reserve. It is a really nice place with a piano player who was a really incredible singer and very talented piano player. So far Amanda just thought that I was being nice and taking her out to dinner and had absolutely no idea what was really going on. The only people who knew at this point was my family that I had visited, my friends Joey and Kevin, Amanda's Dad(or so I thought... her dad told her sister and mother in law as well). We had a really good dinner I had a really good prime rib and amanda had a spicy chicken diavolo pasta dish. We sat and enjoyed the piano player for a while and had dessert. Then I told Amanda that I wanted to go out and take a walk on the bridge just around the corner. She was a little confused why I wanted to walk on the bridge when it was so cold out but she went along and when we got to a point that had a nice view (not very far because it was really cold and ...

Corby, I enjoyed your best of 2008 photo collection. You and Brian have, as usual, found several beautiful and interesting places to visit during the year. Don't forget to hand your camera to a stranger to snap a shot of you and Brian together once in a while. The photos of the front view of the house and the front porch with Christmas garlands are beautiful. Hoping you and Brian have a great new year.

I looked at your pictures of Christmas and your birthday tonight. Kevin. Your house looked wonderful for Christmas. As did you! There is a picture of you and Todd in your Christmas album that is great of you. You also looked quite handsome on your birthday. I'm sure that your favorite gift is those snuggly buddies! WHAT a hoot!
