Recent Lake Activities

Carey came to Dallas last Sunday to meet a client. He came over to Arlington after work and he and I went right out to the lake. Carey dropped into the water and pulled on the slalom ski and just took right off for a couple of good runs. He looked like he does this every week, and not twice in the last 20 years. We sat out on the water for sunset and a visit. It was a very pretty evening. There are more photos on my albums attached here. We took the Collins clan to the lake for the first time a week ago. Will went out on the raft with his dad and immediately took a spill. They got back on had a good ride. Katie is an old pro on the raft. She tried out the new skis sized for her age and weight. You can see from her expression here that she was amazed that she just popped up and skiied on her very first try. We are looking forward to a great summer on the lake. We went out on Wednesday evening last week with Jess and Kristin and all of the kids. Grant went on the raft by himself and Claire went out with Bobis.

You certainly are getting great use of your boat and the lake. Sounds as if everyone is having fun. Does Tow Daddy ever get to ski? You used to be the best at Mim's.

Hey some nice video mixin Kev! (both Mom's day and skiing) Katie looked pretty good too. I haven't skied since SC with Philip back in the river and then all I could do was get up on 2 skis and "crack the whip" until I went across the water in this great crash. Having fun is a good thing.

 When watching the evening news today, I saw an image of coal barges lined up at the docks at the USS Mon Valley Steel Plant.  Of course the news segment was about the White House blocking the sale of USS to Nippon Steel.  My mind wandered to to dad's career at the Robena Prep Plant.  I didn't think that it was still in operation but I searched for more information.  I found that the Robena deep mines closed in 1983, but plant continued to operate until 2017 processing coal from surface mining for Consol Mining.  It seems that reclamation of the site began many years before 2017, most likely mandated by local concerns about environmental damage from seepage from the three large slurry ponds and other surface contamination.  Dad took me out one Sunday afternoon to inspect the dikes and berms around the ponds.  We had to hop into one of the big company trucks to traverse the dirt roads around the site.
